Yankees vs. Orioles - July 28

The Yankees return home tonight for the start of a 3-game series with the slumping Baltimore Orioles. The O's victory yesterday was their first Sunday win since April 6. Manager Dave Trembley was so excited he lit up his first ever cigar, though no smoke appeared from it in the video. That's just the way the O's season has gone.

The Yankees send ace Mike Mussina, yeah we really did just say that, against right-hander Jeremy Guthrie.

Here's the lineup courtesy of Peter Abraham:

Damon DH
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Giambi 1B
Cano 2B
Nady LF
Cabrera CF
Molina C

Yankees vs. Rangers - June 30

Brett Gardner makes his major league debut tonight and he's right in the lineup, in the lead off spot. Johnny Damon gets a night off as Gardner mans left field with Mike Mussina on the mound.

Here's tonight's lineup courtesy of Peter Abraham:

Gardner LF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Giambi 1B
Posada DH
Cano 2B
Cabrera CF
Molina C

Mike Mussina (10-5, 3.93) has faced only a handful of the current Rangers, most notably, Michael Young (-35, .257 3 RBI) and Frank Catalonotto (26-59, .441 2 HR 10 RBI). Moose is 17-12, 3.76 in 35 career starts against the Rangers.

The Rangers have the major leagues leading RBI man in Josh Hamilton, who has been bothered by some nagging injuries lately. It's overshadowed the all-star type season from pending free agent Milton Bradley, who's hitting .323-16-49 with a 1.056 OPS.

Scott Feldman (1-3, 4.60) has faced just four Yankees, none for more than 1 at-bat. He's pitched just one-third of an inning and has allowed 3 runs.

Yankees vs. Pirates - June 25

All right, enough of the bullshit. This is the Pittsburgh Pirates, the 37-40 Pirates (granted that's not far behind the Yankees record). A team with a major league worst 5.06 ERA- okay they held up their end of the bargain. But that ERA is built mainly against weaker hitting National League teams.

The Pirates offense isn't as bad as you would think. They're 5th in the majors in runs scored and have hit more home runs than the Yankees. BUT THIS IS THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES. A team that has finished under .500 for 15 straight seasons. The Yankees MUST take 2 of 3 in this series.

Joba Chamberlain will try to get even things up tonight when he goes against Zach Duke. Like last night's starter, Tom Gorzelanny, and tomorrow's starter Paul Maholm, Duke is a left-hander. He's never faced the Yankees outside of Spring Training.

Bobby Abreu, who is desperately trying to shake a batting slumber, is 3-7 against Duke, while Chad Moeller is 1-6. Wilson Betemit has a hit in his only at-bat and the Yankees might want to think about sending up Andy Pettitte to pinch-hit. He's 2-2 lifetime against Duke.

The only member of the Pirates to face Joba, was Jason Michaels, who as a member of the Cleveland Indians, went 0-1.

Here's tonight's lineup courtesy of Peter Abraham:

Cabrera CF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Giambi 1B
Posada C
Cano 2B
Christian LF
Chamberlain RHP

Yankees vs. Padres - June 18

Hopefully the rains won't interrupt/cancel tonight's game. Looks like it should just be passing through as it did earlier. We want Joba on the hill tomorrow when we go.

Darrell Rasner looks to bounce back from that horrible outing in Oakland and snap his personal 4 game winning streak. He could conceivably be 5-2 considering the lack of run support he's gotten in his 7 starts. The Padres ace Jake Peavy goes against him in his second start since returning from a stint on the disabled list.

Here's tonight's Yankees lineup from Peter Abraham. Hideki Matsui gets a night off.

Damon LF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Giambi DH
Posada C
Cano 2B
Betemit 1B
Cabrera CF

Rasner has never faced any of the Padres, while Peavy pitched against the Yankees back in 2004. Of course he has faced some of them, such as Bobby Abreu, when they were on other teams.

Yankees vs. Peavy

Abreu 3-10 1 RBI
Betemit 1-12 (strange choice for the lineup)
Jeter 0-3
Moeller 3-8 2 RBI
Molina 0-3

Yankees vs. Indians - May 8

Here are today's lineups courtesy of Brian Heyman of the Journal News:

Damon LF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Matsui DH
Giambi 1B
Cabrera CF
Cano 2B
Betemit 3B
Molina C

Molina catching the day game after a night game, but he's gotten Moose on a roll and Joe Girardi isn't going to mess with that.

Update 11:52 am

Here's the Indians lineup courtesy of the Cleveland Plain Dealer

G. Sizemore, CF
J. Carroll, 2B
D. Dellucci, DH
J. Peralta, SS
B. Francisco, LF
F. Gutierrez, RF
R. Garko, 1B
C. Blake, 3B
K. Shoppach, C

Update 1:30 pm

Moose looks good thus far, retiring 6 of the first 7 hitters he's faced. He even struck out Jhonny Peralta swinging. The Yankees went in order, again, in the 1st.

Update 1:33 pm
Hideki Matsui lead off the 2nd with a single to extend his hitting streak to 17 games.

Update 1:51 pm
Moose
breezed through the top of the 3rd, getting another swinging strikeout in the process. But Paul Byrd took the Yankees in order for the 2nd time in 3 innings.

Update 2:00 pm
Moose retires the side in order again in the 4th. Sterling and Waldman are now spinning how great Moose is.

Update 2:04 pm
Johnny Damon hits a solo home run to get the Yankees off the schneid. Sterling's "Positively Damonic" nearly made us throw up in our mouths.

Update 2:09 pm
Jason Giambi
just hit a 2-run upper deck home run to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead. Matsui's 2nd hit preceded it.

Giambi is 6-7 with 5 HR, 9 RBI against Mike Timlin and Paul Byrd, and 8-78 1 HR 7 RBI against the rest of the league.

Update 2:27 pm
Well that lead was short lived. A hit batter and 3 hits and the game is tied 3-3 in the top of the 5th.

Update 2:41 pm
The Yankees have taken the lead back on doubles by Robinson Cano and Johnny Damon in the 5th. Damon's hit came after there were 2 out, something the Yanks have struggled with this season. Looks like Ross Ohlendorf is coming on to start the 6th.

Update 2:54 pm
Ohlendorf
breezed through the top of the 6th as Byrd did in the bottom of the inning, though Giambi almost hit one out again.

Update 3:05 pm
Ohlendorf allowed a lead off single in the 7th, but retired the next 3, with the help of a fine running grab by Damon, to escape trouble. Up to Joba and Mo now unless the Yankees can blow it open (not likely).

Update 3:10 pm
Moments ago Robbie Cano, don'tcha know...hit an upper deck home run to give the Yankees a 5-3 lead and sent Paul Byrd to the showers. Good to score runs, but as usual, relying too much on the home run ball.

Update 3:13 PM
Wilson Betemit hits a 2-run home run, the Yankees 4th of the day, to give the Yankees a 6-3 lead. "The Yankees will bet on Betemit". How does this clown stay employed?

Yankees vs. Red Sox - April 16

Yankees and Red Sox play the first of two tonight with Chien-Ming Wang and Clay Buchholz opposing each other in a rematch of last Friday's game. For the Yankees sake, lets hope the outcome of that one is repeated this evening.

Here are the lineups from PeteAbe.

Yankees vs. Rays - April 14

The Yankees play their second series of the season already with the Tampa Bay Rays starting tonight. It's a brief one- 2 games. Derek Jeter will be back in the lineup for the first time in a week and Robinson Cano is getting a much needed day off. Alberto Gonzalez gets his first start at 2nd Base.

With Cano sitting, Alex Rodriguez is the only Yankee to have started every game. And that will changed when Mrs. A-Rod gives birth this week.

Here is tonight's lineups:

YANKEES
Damon LF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Matsui DH
Ensberg 1B
Cabrera CF
Moeller C
Gonzalez 2B
Kennedy RHP

With Jason Giambi hitting a pair of home runs over the weekend we're a little surprised to see him sitting tonight. Perhaps the Yankees want to get Morgan Ensberg some swings for when A-Rod goes off on his Daddy duty.

The Yankees desperately need a good outing from IPK (0-1, 13.50) tonight. The Rays manhandled him in his only other start this season and just like Phil Hughes last night, he didn't have command of his fastball in that one.

Andy Sonnanstine (1-1, 6.00) will face Kennedy just as he did in that Rays 13-4 drubbing back on April 4. Sonnanstine allowed 4 runs in 6 innings. Coincidentally that was also the only game that Jonathan Albaladejo, recalled today, pitched in before being demoted.

Yankees vs. Rays - April 5

1:05 Start on YES

Andy Pettitte makes his season debut today as the Yankees take on the Rays in the 2nd game of a 4 game series. No word yet, but it's expected that Jon Albaladejo will be optioned down to Scranton to make room on the 25-man roster.

Here are today's lineups courtesy of Peter Abraham.

RAYS
Iwamura 2B
Crawford LF
Pena 1B
Upton CF
Gomes RF
Aybar 3B
Bartlett SS
Riggans C

Jackson RHP

YANKEES
Damon CF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Giambi DH
Cano 2B
Posada C
Matsui LF
Duncan 1B
Pettitte LHP

Derek Jeter (4-8) and Hideki Matsui (4-9) have had the most success against Jackson. Carlos Pena is 7-18 against Pettitte with 2 home runs and 2 triples. Carl Crawford is hitting .357 (5-14) against the left-hander.
