Oh yes, they call him the streak

The Yankees belted the Twins for the 2nd straight game last night 10-1. They got off to a good start, because the hottest hitter in baseball, Alex Rodriguez, smacked another long home run in
the 1st for a quick 2-0 lead. Andy Pettitte was marvelous in his 2nd start back where he belongs, and they Yankees offense piled up the runs on Twins starter Boof Bonser and the bullpen.

Johnny Damon had his 1st HR of the year, a long 3-run shot. Melky Cabrera broke out of his slump with 3 hits, and even recently recalled Kevin Thompson got into the act with a 2-run double.

No one is hitting better than A-Rod right now though (contract year...hmmm). His 6 home runs in the season's first 7 games is 2nd only to Mike Schmidt, who had 7 in 7. He also leads the majors with 15 RBI, and is hitting .357. He nearly had a 2nd home run when he flied out to the warning track in right.

Johnny Damon admires his 3-run HR

Pettitte (1-0, 1. 64)threw 96 pitches in his 6 scoreless innings. He allowed 4 hits, a walk, and struck out 3. It was first victory in pinstripes since the 2003 World Series, and the 187th of his career.

~~~
Derek Jeter stole the 250th of his career. It puts one behind Willie Randolph for 2nd place all-time on the Yankees career list. Jeter also tied Joe DiMaggio for 7th all time in career
(6,821) at-bats as a Yankee.
Yankees vs. Twins Preview
Thankfully, the Yankees will not see Johann Santana on this stop in the twin cities. The reigning Cy Young winner tossed 7 innings of 1-hit ball yesterday to beat the Chisox.
Monday(7:05)- Carl Pavano vs Sidney Ponson; somehow I don't think this will be a double no-hitter.
Tuesday(8:10) - Andy Pettitte vs Boof Bonser
Wednesday(8:10) - Mike Mussina vs Ramon Ortiz
Twins have won 4 of their first 5. '06 MVP Justin Morneau hit his 1st HR of the season yesterday.
Yankees vs. Twins
Britton and Basak blow it. Twins win 4-3.
Chris Britton has pretty much blown his slim chance of making the team, blowing a 1-run lead with 2 outs in the 9th. To make matters worse, Chris Basak, who had just slid over to 2nd from SS, booted Toby Gardenhire's (yeah, it's his son), grounder to allow the game winner to score. You would have thought the Twins had just won another world series based on the reactions from John Gordon and Dan Gladden.
8th Inning
Phelps does it again. A 2-out RBI double scores Robinson Cano for a 3-2 lead.
6 Innings Complete
Pavano has been pretty excellent today. He's gotten the Twins to bounce into 4 DPs. Game tied 2-2 after 6.
2nd Inning
Pavano gives up 2 runs, on 4 hits, 3 of them with 2 outs, to tie it 2-2.
Josh Phelps with a long home run to CF. He's been impressive as hell this spring. 2-0 Yankees.
1st Inning
Twins got 2 men on with a walk and error by Chris Basak (filling in for Jeter), but Pavano induced a 5-4-3 DP to get out of it.
Bobby Abreu looking good - solo shot to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
