Now Pitching, Uno

Uno the Beagle became the first Beagle to win "Best in Show" at the Westminster Kennel Club annual soiree back in February. Yesterday, he may very well have become the first Beagle to throw out the first pitch at a Major League baseball game.

Crazy, you say? A dog throwing out the first pitch?. Uno indeed threw out the first pitch in Saturday's game between the Cincinnati Reds and Miwaukee Brewers.

He also played a playful game of "catch" with Brewers pitcher Jeff Suppan, and was interviewed after the game.
Reporter: “So Uno -- what do you think of Milwaukee?”

Uno: “Yeowp!”

Reporter: “How did you train for the first pitch?”

Uno goes after unattended fondue pot.

Reporter: "Is it true you have your own harness and seat when you travel Midwest Airlines?"

Uno goes after unattended nachos.

Reporter: “Will you give your new friend Jeff Suppan back the glove you stole from him in the dug-out?”

Uno: No.

Uno may now be the most popular "person" in Milwaukee since Hank Aaron.

A Big Thank You

We would like to thank the guys at The Big Lead and Deadspin for running our story on Uno, the Westminster champion Beagle. As Beagle owners, we were already concerned about the overbreeding, adopt and later dump mentality that is widespread among dogs of all breeds.

We encourage you to adopt from your local pound, shelter, or rescue, and AVOID buying dogs from pet stores. These dogs simply help backyard breeders and puppy mills stay in business.

Our guys, Tinker and Virginia, thank you!

Numero Uno

Uno rings the NASDAQ opening bell
As the owners of 2 Beagles, we couldn't be prouder of "K-Run's Park Me in First", better known as Uno, who did what no other Beagle has done before- win Best in Show at the 132nd annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Uno beat out thousands of those dogs with ridiculous haircuts to capture the crown.

There is a backlash from all this though. A lot of people get excited when a dog wins at Westminster and immediately want to go out and get that breed. But as people who have volunteered in rescue work (both of our Beagles came from rescues), we urge you to think twice before doing so.

We recommend reading this excellent piece on Beagles on the Web before you go out and scoop up an Uno of your own.
