NFL Picks - Week 7

We had a miserable week last Sunday, topped off the giant crap Big Blue took on Monday night. A 5-9 week puts us at 47-38-3 overall.

This week the Giants should be back on the ball against an inferior 49ers team. It definitely helps that it is a home game. The Giants will be without Antonio Pierce and his backup, Chase Blackburn, is a big banged up himself. Eli Manning has a bruised chest, but will play.
Giants -10.5 vs. 49ers Prediction: Giants 33 49ers 16

Jets -3 at Raiders
A decent playing Jets team has a good stretch of the schedule, including today's road game against a Raiders team that is in as much disarray as ever. Jets should romp.

Titans -9 at Chiefs
That's a big spread for a road team, but the Titans are unbeaten. Unlike the Giants-Browns game on Monday night, there will be no sudden turnaround for the Chiefs. They just plain stink.

Bills -1 vs. Chargers
The Chargers are completely unpredictable, especially when LT2 is banged up, but Tomlinson did take part in full practices on Thursday and Friday. That being said, the Bills defense should be the difference maker in this one.

Steelers -9.5 at Bengals
Another big road spread, but another feeble opponent. Carson Palmer is still sitting, as is Willie Parker, but the Steelers have enough weapons to make for another miserable day for Marvin Lewis.

Ravens +3 at Dolphins
Wildcat offense or not, the difference in this game will be Joe Flacco. We were going to go with the Dolphins and then switched. A choice we will probably regret.

Cowboys -7 at Rams
Not having Tony Romo shouldn't stop the Cowboys from blasting the Rams. Cowboys will bounce back from last week's upset at the hands of the Cardinals, and there is no way the Rams will beat an NFC East opponent two weeks in a row.

Bears -3 vs. Vikings
Should be a pretty good game, but the Bears are the better team.

Panthers -3 vs. Saints
Going with another favorite here. The Panthers defense should be a good match for the Saints offense. If Jake Delhomme is on, he should be able to pick apart the Saints secondary.

Lions +9.5 at Texans
Okay, this pick is crazy. Completely. But we'll commit point spread suicide.

Browns +7.5 at Redskins
No, we're not reading too much into last week's Browns win. They won't win this one, but we think they can keep it close...we hope.

Colts -1 at Packers
Peyton Manning looked healthy last week in throwing 3 TD's. He should replicate that feat this week.

Bucs -10.5 vs. Seahawks
We really don't like laying that many points with the Bucs, but we really don't like this Seattle team.

Patriots -3 vs. Broncos
This game could probably be a PK, but with the lack of Broncos defense, we'll go with the Pats.

NFL Picks - Week 6

We have to wait until Monday Night Football (we still hear Howard Cosell's voice saying MNF) to see Big Blue play. We hate when the Giants play on Sunday or Monday night. It generally does not go well. But we have confidence that should not be the case this time around and the Giants should remain unbeaten. The Browns went from the precipice of the playoffs last season to underachievers this season. They're 1-3 with their "great find", Derek Andersen, playing like a lost soul. Prediction Giants 31 Browns 13
Giants -8 at Browns

Jets -9.5 vs. Bengals
We flip flopped on the Bengals last week and we got burned by not taking them. The Jets are no world beaters, but the Bengals are in complete disarray right now.

Saints -7 vs. Raiders
The Raiders are working under new interim coach Tom Cable (is anything more interim than coaching under Al Davis?), but things shouldn't change much. On the other side of the ball, we're not hearing that genius tag thrown at Sean Payton much any more.

Ravens +3.5 at Colts
We don't like this Ravens team, but the Colts have been lucky to win at all this year. We can see this being a FG game.

Panthers +2 at Bucs
Whether it's is Garcia or Griese, there's no way should the Bucs be favored (some sites have the Panthers favored, but we use the line from Football Locks.com.

Vikings - 13.5 vs. Lions
We don't like this Vikings squad or double digit spreads, but we can see A.P. destroying the Lions today.

Bears -3 at Falcons
Wow, suddenly we have faith in Kyle Orton and Da Bears.

Dolphins +3 at Texans
Never thought we would be picking the Dolphins, but they have had some impressive wins. Houston could win this one, but it will be a nail biter.

Redskins -12.5 vs. Rams
What a turn out since week 1 in DC. Which is unfortunate, because we hate the Deadskins and it makes the NFC East even tougher.

Jags +3.5 at Broncos
Should be a high scoring game, but the Jags 'D' is much better than Denver's.

Eagles -4.5 at 49ers
Even without Brian Westbrook, the Eagles should win by a touchdown.

Cowboys -4.5 at Cardinals
Arizona isn't as good as their blow out win over the Bills and they're not as bad as their blow out loss to the Jets, but they're not nearly as good as the Cowboys.

Packers +1 at Seahawks
Most lines are now favoring the Pack as Seattle is down to 3rd string QB Charlie Frye. Pack should romp.

Patriots +5 at Chargers
Since their disappointing playoff loss to New England in the 2006 season, this San Diego team has just not been the same. They could very well win today, but it should be close.

NFL Picks - Week 4

We never had a chance to go over the picks from last Sunday, but we were 10-6 last week.

Week 4 Picks

Big Blue has the week off, so we'll savor that 3-0 start for a bit.

Jets -1 vs. Cardinals
We have no faith in the Jets, but this is Arizona they're playing. Jets and Favre take this one, 20-17.

Broncos -9 at Chiefs
Chiefs are God awful and the Broncos offense is clicking on all cylinders. Broncs shouldn't blow them out.

Browns +1 at Bengals
Wow, tough one. The way things have gone for these 0-3 teams, they'll probably tie. Derek Anderson has to turn things around, doesn't he?

Jaguars -6.5 vs. Texans
Jags are beat up, but last week's win proved just how much talent this team has. Houston doesn't match up.

Saints -4.5 vs. 49ers
Saints defense has been nowhere to be found, but they should be able to do enough to beat the Niners.

Falcons +7 at Panthers
We love this Panthers team, but they haven't been that stupendous. Panthers win, but a close game.

Titans -3 vs. Vikings
The better team takes this one.

Packers +2 at Bucs
Interesting game and a tough pick. Bucs 'D' hasn't been as we would expect. The Bucs are not the Cowboys and that should mean a good enough day for Aaron Rodgers.

Bills -8.5 at Rams
When you're 8.5 point underdogs at home, you know you are in trouble.

Chargers -8 at Raiders
The same theory applies as above. Chargers should crush the Raiduhs.

Redskins +10 at Cowboys
Dallas is the superior team, but that's a big spread for such an intense rivalry.

Eagles -3 at Bears
Even without Westbrook, the Eagles should take it.

Steelers -5 vs. Ravens
Steelers should bounce back from last week's tough loss to Philly.

NFL Picks - Week1

We were way off on the score, but correct in picking Big Blue to lay the points against the Redskins Thursday night. We really haven't been paying much attention to the pre-season games, so the early going could be rough. Do NOT, do NOT base any of your gambling on our picks.

Jets at Dolphins
The Brett Favre ERA/year begins in earnest. For one week, he'll look like a world beater. The Dolphins won't be significantly better than last year, even though their quarterback is one Chad Pennington. Jets -3

Bengals at Ravens
The Ravens offense still doesn't look very offensive. Hopefully not all of the Bengals have a court date. Bengals -2

Chiefs at Patriots
The Patriots haven't lost a regular season game since 2006, and their not about to lose this one. Patriots -16

Texans at Steelers
You just never know what to make of the Texans. We don't think the Steelers should have any problems in this one. Steelers -6.5

Jaguars at Titans
Will Vince Young progress or regress? Will David Garrard have another huge year? Should make for an interesting game. We think this one will be close. Jags win, but Titans +3

Lions at Falcons
Two teams that are always hard to figure. The Lions went 4-0 in the pre-season...that doesn't impress us. The Falcons had trouble scoring and that definitely made an impression. Lions -3

Seahawks at Bills
Seahawks were a big disappointment last season, while the Bills played rock 'em, sock 'em football. Seahawks +1

Bucs at Saints
The Saints were one of the biggest disappointments in '07. The Bucs lost a first round playoff match up with the Giants. Should be a good one, but the Bucs offense still stinks. Saints -3

Rams at Eagles
The Eagles, particularly Donovan McNabb, have a lot to prove. The Rams have even more to prove after a disappointing '07 season. We think this is too big of a spread for the Eagles to cover in week one, even at home. Rams +8

Cowboys at Browns
Cowboys think they should have been representing the NFC in last year's Super Bowl. The Browns came back from the dead early in the season and narrowly missed a playoff spot last year. Jamal Lewis is a game time decision. Cowboys - 5.5

Panthers at Chargers
The Chargers are looking to return to their 2006 form after not living up to last season's expectations. Jake Delhomme is back, which is great news for Panthers fans, but he won't have Steve Smith, suspended for two games after punching a teammate, to throw to this week. We think the Panthers defense can keep it close. Panthers +9

Cardinals at 49ers
Kurt Warner beat out Matt Leinart in AZ and T.J. O'Sullivan vanquished Alex Smith in San Fran. Cardinals -2.5

Bears at Colts
A rematch of Super Bowl XLI, but Kyle Orton gets the nod over Rex Grossman at QB. Not much of a difference. Peyton Manning is ready to go. Colts -9.5

Monday Night Football

Vikings at Packers
The post-Brett Favre era begins and the Packers are very happy not to be looking across the line of scrimmage at him this week. Aaron Rodgers should get his first open night win in this one. Packers -2.5

Broncos at Raiders
There's no reason to think there will be a lot of improvement in Oakland, while Denver and Jay Cutler look to attain the heights they fell short of last season. Broncos -3

Off Day News and Notes

Time to take a look at what else is going on in the sports world. We already ripped Brett Favre for, what we think was, his contrived retirement in order to get out of Green Bay. Favre tried to make the Packers the bad guys, but word came out this week that Brett's not too bright off the field. Seems he's been using a cell phone, still owned by the Packers, to call Vikings head coach Brad Childress and some of his assistants. Yeah, the NFL is looking into tampering.

Remember Alycia Lane? The Philly newscaster who made headlines by sending the NFL Network's Rich Eisen photos of herself in a bikini. Mrs. Eisen wasn't too appreciative. Lane got in more trouble after slapping an off duty female cop in New York. Well now comes word that one of Lane's co-workers in Philly, anchorman Ron BurgundyLarry Mendte is accused of hacking into Lane's computer and leaking her personal information to the press.

Andrew Guiliani, yep Rudy's son, is suing Duke University for kicking him off the school's golf team. Little G claims he was unceremoniously dumped from the team and its interfering with his hopes of becoming a professional golfer.

Favre and Away

We'll watch the start of tonight's game and check in here and there, and be sure to turn back when Mariano Rivera better pitch the 9th inning. But this game is a borefest and the players think that it's ludicrous to have it determine home field advantage in the World Series.

So we're going to take a time out from MLB for a moment to comment on this Brett Favre nonsense.

Was anyone shocked that Favre came out of retirement? Was anyone not shocked when Favre ripped the Packers in an odd interview Greta Van Sustern over on the Weasel network. Favre feels unloved and unwanted by the organization that he gave his heart and soul to. Nice try Brett.

Favre clearing knew what he was doing with his pseudo-retirement after last season. It was a clear ploy to get out of Green Bay without making himself look like the bad guy. Instead of demanding a trade, he retired, thereby allowing his old team to move on. Then hecome out of retirement when there was no longer room for him and asked that team that he had been so loyal to, to release him so he could play anywhere, including against maybe one of their rivals like the Vikings.

Big time lack of class there Brett.
