Rain Wipes Away Yankees Lead

The Yankees seemed to have finally figured out the Pittsburgh Pirates. After a 10-0 blow out on Wednesday, the Yankees had a 3-1 lead after 2 innings last night, but then the rains came and washed away a chance to take the series. More annoying was the fact that they lost Mike Mussina after only 2 innings. Had the game been called before it started, they would have had him pitching in the Mets series.

The Yankees started out with a bang in the 1st inning against Pirates starter Paul Maholm. Johnny Damon doubled, stole 3rd base and scored on Derek Jeter's double. Jeter came home on a triple by Bobby Abreu, who in turn scored on a double by Alex Rodriguez for 3-0 lead. Mussina had a shaky 1st inning as well, allowing 2 hits and 2 walks, but escaping with just 1 run allowed. Jose Molina added a 5th extra base hit for the Yankees in the 2nd inning, but was stranded.

The game will replayed in its entirety on July 10, a day off for both teams.
