Game On...and Over

Holy rain delays Batman. We understood the Yankees-Jays game was being rained out. Then we had to go out for a while. We come back to find out that they started up again and played until the top of the 6th when the rains came down heavy again.

The teams had just started to play the bottom of the 2nd inning when play was suspended. 61 minutes later they started up again with Scott Patterson replacing Phil Hughes. He, Kei Igawa, and Billy Traber did not allow a hit over 4 innings. In fact, the Yankees had a perfect game going. Shelley Duncan went 2-2 with a run scored and an RBI, and Melky Cabrera singled in a run.

Rainout Theater

So much for giving you a full recap of the game at its conclusion...'cause it's already over. The game was called after just an inning and a half (plus one pitch thrown by Phil Hughes in the bottom of the 2nd) due to rain. The Yankees had a 1-0 lead on a double by Shelley Duncan and an RBI single by Melky Cabrera.

Hughes threw just 10 pitches, so he may throw some more if the Blue Jays have an indoor facility set up for the visiting team. Otherwise he'll probably do more throwing on the side Wednesday or Thursday.

Yankees vs. Blue Jays - March 4

The Yankees traveled to Dunedin today to take on the Blue Jays at 1:05 pm. Phil Hughes, who threw one inning on Friday against USF, will work in today's game. The Yankees have a "near" regular lineup for the game.

In addition to Dr. Phil Good, Kei Igawa (most definitely Dr. Pitch like Crap), Chase Wright, Jeffrey Marquez, Billy Traber, and Heath Phillips are expected to pitch. The Blue Jays lineup looks odd with new additions, David Eckstein and Scott Rolen.

We won't be able to live blog today's game, but we'll give you a full recap afterwards. Both Peter Abraham and Mark Feinsand will have live blogs of the game.

Mariano Rivera got closer to appearing in a Grapefruit game by throwing live batting practice this morning in Tampa.
