Games of 6/26

Scranton was a starter short so they went by committe and pulled out a 7-4 win on Cody Ransom's 8th inning, 3-run home run. Steven Jackson got the start (3 IP, 1 ER), followed by Steven White (2 IP, 2 ER), Dave Robertson (2 IP, 0 R, 3 K), J.B. Cox (1 IP, 0 R), who picked up the win, and Scott Strickland (1 IP, 0 R), who earned his first save. Ransom also had an RBI single in the victory over the Columbus Clippers.

The Trenton Thunder were belted by the Erie SeaWolves 6-1 as the game out of reach against reliever Bo Hall. George Kontos (5 IP, 3 R, 1 ER, 7 K) had a decent start, but the Thunder was limited to 5 hits. Edwar Gonzalez scored the lone run.

The Tampa Yankees had the day off.

Charleston had an up and down day. The RiverDogs won the completion of their game, started on 6/21, before dropping the regularly scheduled game to the Columbus Catfish.

Taylor Holiday's grand slam ignited the RiverDogs to a 6-2 win in the opener. Ryan Zink allowed 1 unearned run over 3 innings to pick up the win.

Lance Pendleton was a tough luck loser in the regularly scheduled 7 inning contest. Pendleton allowed 2 unearned runs over 5 innings, but the Catfish hung on for a 2-1 win. Brandon Laird drove in the lone RiverDogs run.

The Staten Island Yankees lost a tough one to the Hudson Valley Renegades 3-2. Starter Corey Arbiso got roughed up early, but the bullpen did a good job of keeping the Baby Bombers in the game. Ray Kruml had 3 hits, and RBI and a run scored, and Melky Mesa also drove in a run.

Minor League Recap - 6/4

Rough Triple-A debut for Phil Coke last night in Scranton's 4-0 loss to the Norfolk Tides. Coke got tagged for 3 runs and 8 hits in 3 innings pitched. Dave Robertson (1.1 IP) and J.B. Cox (1 IP) each had scoreless appearances. The Yankees managed just 3 hits in the game.

The Trenton Thunder dropped a 5-3 game to the Connecticut Defenders when Steven Jackson surrendered a 7th inning, 2-run home run to Travis Ishikawa. Eric Hacker started for the Thunder, allowing 3 runs in 5 innings. Ramiro Pena had a pair of RBI for Trenton, while Jose Tabata had to leave the game after being hit by a pitch.

Grant Duff had a no-hitter going and the Tampa Yankees lead the Clearwater Threshers 1-0 when the game entered the 5th inning. Talk about the wheels coming off. Duff and 3 relievers got hammered from that point on and the Yankees fell 12-5. Kevin Whelan had his worst outing of the year, walking 5 batters in 1.1 innings. The top 3 batters in the Yankees lineup, Edwin Nunez, Mitch Hilligoss, and Jose Gil, had 5 of the team's 9 hits and drove in 4 of the 5 runs.

The Charleston RiverDogs prevented the chain from not having a win at either the major or minor league levels. Noel Castillo pitched 2-hit ball for 6 innings in the RiverDogs 3-0 win over the Rome Braves. Gabe Medina and Jon Ortiz finished the shutout, with Ortiz picking up his 17th save. Brad Suttle hit his 2nd home run of the season.

Minor League Recap - 4/29

Kei Igawa pitched like the Kei Igawa we all know and hate in last night's Scranton loss to Buffalo, 5-2. Igawa was charged with 4 runs and 7 hits in 5 innings. Cody Ransom homered and Bernie Castro had 3 hits for the Yankees. Steven Jackson made his Triple-A debut, after 7 appearances for Trenton, and threw 1 scoreless inning.

The Thunder had the night off and will start a series against Connecticut this evening.

Ivan Nova pitched decently for the Tampa Yankees, but the offense couldn't get anything going in a 3-1 loss to the Clearwater Threshers. Edwar Gonzalez had 3 of the Yankees, who have lost 2 straight, 9 hits. Mark Melancon threw 2 scoreless innings and has allowed just 1 earned run in his last 11.1 innings pitched.

The Charleston River Dogs and their league best 19-5 record had the night off. They'll start a series at home tonight against the August Green Jackets.

Back to the Minors Young Man

Pitchers Scott Strickland, Dan McCutchen, Steven White and Steven Jackson were reassigned to the minor league camp prior to Saturday's game. Pitcher Mark Melancon joined them after the afternoon's contest with the Rays.
