We're Still Laughing

You may have seen it by now, but if you haven't, be prepared to laugh. To laugh heartily. The Yankees and Mets unveiled their 2009 uniform commemorative patches. Only one team got it right and one team got it wrong. Any guesses?

First here is the Yankees' patch. Nicely done. Very nice.

And now, drumroll please. Here is the Mets' patch.

WTF definitely comes to mind, but our favorite is Big League Stew's comparison to the Domino's Pizza logo.

Inaugural season of what? You guys forget to put "Shea Stadium" or do you need to save that money to sign Oliver Perez?

Patch Adams

Excuse the reference to a fairly lame Robin Williams movie- though it did introduce us to Julia Roberts' blond doppelganger, Monica Potter.

The Yankees will be wearing the above patch on their uniforms this season to commemorate the 85 years of Yankee Stadium and its finale.

Here's the official press release from the Yankees, courtesy of Peter Abraham:

The New York Yankees announced today that the team will wear a special patch on their 2008 uniforms commemorating the final season of Yankee Stadium. In addition, the team will also don a patch in honor of the 2008 All-Star Game that will take place at Yankee Stadium on July 15, 2008. It is the first time the club’s uniforms will be adorned with a patch for a full season since 2003, when the Yankees wore a patch commemorating the 100th anniversary of the franchise.

The “Yankee Stadium—The Final Season” patch will feature the main entrance of the original Stadium as it was prior to renovation in 1976. A “1923-2008” notation along the top of the patch recognizes the lifetime of the Stadium since its original Opening Day on April 18, 1923.

In an effort to be closest to the heart, the Yankee Stadium patch will be worn on the left sleeves of both home and road jerseys. The 2008 All-Star Game patch will appear on the right sleeves of both jerseys.
