Don Mattingly stared the organization in 1986 and Bernie Williams stepped up to the plate when Donnie Baseball retired. Johnny Damon took over in 2006.

Proctor Still Brings Relief

Scott Proctor may no longer be a Yankee, but his former teammates Johnny Damon and Kyle Farnsworth, as well as his new manager - who is also his old manager - Joe Torre, are helping the right-hander bring relief to his fellow Floridians.

Damon and Torre will be in attendance at Proctor's M.E.’s Team Celebrity Benefit Ball at The Tesoro Club in Port St. Lucie on February 1st. M.E. stands for Mary Elizabeth, Scott Proctor's daughter, who had open heart surgery when she was just 3 weeks old. The benefit will help raise money for pediatric heart ailment research.

“I think Joe Torre’s character as an individual and as a leader will bring some class to the event and will get some people interested in getting out there. Him and Johnny both, I think they’re just classy individuals, and I think they’re going to be fun to hang out with,” Proctor said. “I was really picky with who I asked. With Johnny and Joe, I just asked a big favor.”

The ball as well as the clay shooting tournament the next day in Okeechobee, will also raise funds for Little League challenger division baseball. Farnsworth is expected to partake in the 2nd day's events along with Damon.

The ball will also include a performance by up and coming country singer Ryan Weaver, who lost a brother in the war in Iraq. Proctor will also be hosting a free baseball clinic on Feb. 9th to help fund education costs in Stuart, Florida.

Who's Playing Left Field?

Bernie Williams and his special guest, Paul O'Neill, are hosting the 6th Annual Hillside Food Outreach Neighbors Helping Neighbors Benefit Dinner and Auction on Saturday night, Jan. 26, at Greentree Country Club in New Rochelle. The fundraiser helps to provide food for those in need in Westchester County.

Tis' the Season

It's the holiday season and the Yankees are giving back to the community. Mariano Rivera, Bobby Abreu, Joba Chamberlain, and Derek Jeter have all been involved in recent charitable activities.

Joba was bringing smiles to the faces of children yesterday at the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center's pediatric unit. The rookie wore a Yankees' blue Santa cap as he talked with the patients and their families, taking pitchers, and signing autographs.

"The opportunities that I had when I was younger were few and far between," Chamberlain said. "I'm blessed to be put in this situation, and I wouldn't be here if it weren't for a lot of people. If I can help one or two people, that makes it all worth it."

Derek Jeter and his Turn 2 Foundation took in a private screening of "The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep," which opens to the public on Christmas day. The kids were treated to a red carpet experience, paparazzi included.

"It's one of the things that I really look forward to," Jeter said. "When I started the foundation, we never thought it would be as big as it is now. We just left Michigan and we have a lot of things going down in Florida. It's a lot bigger and better than I ever imagined."

Mariano Rivera and Bobby Abreu were guests at Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, where a group of top local students selected by the Fundacion Dominicana de Deportes en Nueva York, got to meet the 2 Yankees as well as former big-leauger, Roberto Alomar.

Mariano told the kids to follow their dreams, and he and Abreu handed out to toys to the kids.

"I love it, because it's great to give back," Rivera said. "I don't believe in just taking."

"To spend time with the kids is what it's all about, and what we really wanted," Abreu said. "We're just looking to get a little smile for those kids. They did a really good job in school, so they get a present."
