April Slumps Bring May Grumps

The Yankees were basically unwatchable the last two nights and finished up April at 14-15. We'll be holding our breath tonight with Ian Kennedy on the mound and the Rangers trying to stave off elimination in the NHL playoffs. Not to mention Claire's possible imminent demise on LOST.

The April numbers are not pretty...

As for hitting with runners in scoring position...they have the 3rd worst average, .240, in the American League.

Abreu .375
Betemit .333
Cabrera .235
Cano .121
Damon .300
Duncan .200
Ensberg .214
Giambi .091
Gonzalez .200
Jeter .455
Matsui .235
Moeller .250
Molina .222
Rodriguez .130

Obviously the biggest killers have been A-Rod, Giambi, and Cano. We expect A-Rod's numbers to come up pretty rapidly, but there are definitely concerns about the other two.

The team is slumping in general right now. Abreu is 3-21, Molina 0-19, Jeter 4-16, Cano 2-25, Giambi 1-14. The team average, .255, is 9th best in the AL, and they're 10th in runs scored with 129. Again, too many of the runs are coming via the home run. Their total of 29 is tied for 3rd base in the AL.

On the bright side, the Yankees defense has only committed 15 errors in 29 games.

Here's to the start of May.
