Bob Sheppard in Poor Health
We hoped and prayed that Bob Sheppard would be ready to go this season and be there for the opening of the new Stadium, but its looking less likely.
Bob's son Chris will try out during spring training games to be a substitute announcer.
"He's struggling to regain his health," Yankees spokesman Howard Rubenstein said. "He's in poor health. He and the Yankees both hope he's back in the booth. For now he's not."The "Voice of God" as he has been referred to, has been the Yankees' PA announcer since 1951. Sheppard also handled PA duties for the football Giants from 1956 to 2006. No one has been able to pin down his age, but VoG is thought to be in his mid-nineties.
