By now you know of the Yankees flirtation with the Giants concerning Hideki Matsui. According to several sources, the Giants were told "no", when they asked if Matsui was available. That answer seems to fly in the face of all the rumors we heard last week. And then there's this...
"I don't want to get into that stuff," (Hank) Steinbrenner said. "I don't want to make any type of comment on that."
Uh oh...that means Matsui is definitely available and the Yankees are shopping him to some degree.

The Yankees are expected to finally announce Mariano Rivera's contract today, and A-Rod's sometime later in the week. Source

Carl Pavano is mulling his options as he decides whether to accept a Yankees buy out and subsequent minor league deal. He should be mulling the inside of a tree chipper. Pavano recently hired his 4th agent in 5 years. Source

Former Yankees shortstop and broadcaster Tony Kubek has been named a finalist for this year's Ford C. Frick Award. The award is given to a broadcaster for "major contributions to baseball." The recipient will be honored during the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in July.

The other finalists are Joe Nuxhall, Bill King, Joe Morgan, Dizzy Dean, Tom Cheek, Dave Niehaus, Dave Van Horne, Graham McNamee and Ken Coleman. Source
