It Almost Left the Ball Park
On this date, May 22, in 1963, Mickey Mantle hit a drive to right field that nearly left Yankee Stadium. The high soaring shot off of Kansas City's Bill Fischer went off of the light facade atop the Stadium or the ball would surely have sailed out.mickeymantle.com has this audio of the home run, though Mel Allen's call sounds like a recreation rather than the original.
