Girardi Makes it Official
The Yankees are expected to officially announce Joe Girardi's hiring today, via a conference call. At some point, a meet and greet the media in NYC will be set up.

With the Yankees coaching contracts expiring tomorrow, the Yankees are reportedly working quickly to retain Kevin Long as hitting coach. If indeed Joe Torre takes the Dodgers job, he would probably want to hire Long, who makes his off-season home in Arizona. The Yankees would probably like to keep Tony Pena, and possibly Larry Bowa as well. Long time scout/player development guy Robbie Thompson may also join the staff. Girardi's bench coach in Florida, Gary Tuck, who has worked with the Yankees before, could leave the Red Sox to join Girardi in the same capacity.

The Star-Ledger's Lisa Kennelley also did a nice piece on the Yankees new Joe in today's paper.
