No Hits, No Runs, 1 Hammy
or New York Rangers 2 Texas Rangers 1
Just when you thought you had already seen everything that could happen to the Yankees this season, things got bumped a notch tonight.
Phil Hughes was amazing. In just his 2nd big league start, he took a no-hitter into the 7th inning. And then promptly injured his hamstring. Yep, you heard that right. With one out , and Mark Texeira at the plate, Hughes pulled up lame. The 3rd Yankees starting pitcher (Wang, Moose) to go down with a hamstring injury this season.
Attention Brian Cashman - this is on you...again. You went and changed the strength and conditioning coaches, who went away from the standard routines. And the DL has been filled ever since.
Back to the game. Mike Myers came in and got the final 2 outs of the inning, before blowing the no-hitter (a Hank Blalock double to start the 8th) and shutout 1 inning later. Was there ever any doubt that he would? Luis Vizcaino finished up the 9th.
The Yankee's offense manhandled Texas starter Kameron Loe to the tune of 9 runs (7 earned), 10 hits and a walk in 4 innings. Robinson Cano (4-5, 3 RBI) and Alex Rodriguez (3-4) broke out of slumps, while Jorge Posada (3-4, 2 RBI) continued to swing a hot stick.
Hughes allowed 3 walks and struck out 6 in 6 1-3 innings
